Sophies family celebrating her Grandads 90th Birthday
Grandad and Grandma were keen cyclists and did not have a car. Sophies Grandad Hughie thought nothing of racking up 100 - 150 miles each weekend. Hughie would ride his bike from their home in Castleford to Leeds before heading up the valley past Bolton Abbey, Burnsall amd Buckden. Then he would carry on to Wenslydale to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sample the freshly made cheeses that were always available.
Many weekends Hughie would borrow his brother's tandem and he and Nellie would take it out for a spin to Scarborough and back in the day. At 90 Hughie has many tales to tell about his cycling days - treasured memories of times gone by!
Sophie now has cycling in her blood as she has a specially adapted Motamed Bike with an electical stimulus attached (FES) that keep her muscles moving and measure the amount of movement Sophie is transmitting herself. This is the main part of her physiotherapy. It is a very slow process but already she is showing signs of improvement which gives us great hope that she may recover more movement in the future.
