Ride 4 Sophie 14 or 7 Peak Challenge - Whats it all about you ask ?
On 13 April 2009 Sophie's life changed forever. A tragic Go Karting accident left the 21 year old Tetraplegic ( Paralysed from the neck down )Sophie struggled to overcome many setbacks which nearly claimed her life but the feisty 21 year old pulled through and is now trying to rebuild her life and get back to the woman she once was. The accident has left her breathing through a tracheostomy and with no voice.
Sophie remains positive and her main objective is to move independantly again. She has had extensive physiotherapy and her arm movements are becoming stronger. This will allow Sophie to operate an electric wheelchair, which would give her so much more freedom. The wheelchair she requires is specialised for Sophies needs - but comes with a price tag. Please help raise money towards Sophies new chair by either competing in and raising much needed funds for Ride4Sophie 14 / 7 Peak Challenege on 31 July 2010 or sponsoring someone in the 14 Peak or 7 Peak Challenge
The idea is that we all ride together and the Team doing the 7 Peak Challenge wait at the top of the designated Peaks whilst the rest of us suffer and go straight back down and do it again
The 7 Hills are

Sophie now has cycling in her blood as she has a specially adapted Motamed Bike with an electical stimulus attached (FES) that keep her muscles moving and measure the amount of movement Sophie is transmitting herself. This is the main part of her physiotherapy. It is a very slow process but already she is showing signs of improvement which gives us great hope that she may recover more movement in the future.
Sophie will be attending the Challenge on 31 July and will also be at Monday 5 Julys TT at the Wharfedale pub so try and come to that to meet her and show your support.
I will have sponsorship forms available on Monday for people who cannot sponsor on line
Your support is very much appreciated by Sophie and her family - Thank You
